Corporate Social Responsibility

ASPS aims to foster a culture of social responsibility amongst its Members and stakeholders.

CSR is defined by the Australian Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (ACCSR)

“As the actions taken by an organisation to minimise negative social and environmental impacts and leverage core competencies, products or services to create positive social and environmental impacts. To be socially responsible, all organisations need to develop five core capabilities of social responsibility: stakeholder engagement, social accountability, ethical business behaviour, dialogue and value attuned communication.”

“Companies with well developed CSR capabilities use CSR to contribute strategically to business success while building strong communities.”

Deliverables:

  • Encourage respect for privacy issues by ensuring that strategies for marketing and communication (of both ASPS services as well as the marketing and communication by individual Members of their professional practices) adhere to all regulatory and other standards for best practice and protecting privacy.
  • Ensure our research practices adhere to ethical guidelines of AHMRC and RACS.
  • Both for ASPS Office and for Members’ practices attract and develop the highest quality employees, provide a satisfying work experience and a pleasant work environment. Comply with all statutory obligations towards employees.
  • Develop an employee volunteering policy which permits each employee one day a year for voluntary work with a social or environmental organisation of their choice.
  • Influence the greater environment for CSR in Australia by encouraging greater take up of CSR by Members, and balancing CSR against economic and business needs.
  • Disseminate information and research about CSR to Members via the website to further the development of CSR amongst Members. For example, its impact and effect on the workplace, management function and competitive advantage.
  • Encourage environmental awareness and responsible use of energy to minimise our direct environmental impact: reduce the amount of office materials going to waste through office recycling systems; printers are set to default and double-sided printing; the preferred choices for office supplies are either recycled, recyclables or have low-embodied energy content; minimise energy consumption of all equipment by switching off appliances and utilities when not in use. This includes air-conditioning and lighting.
  • Minimise Greenhouse gas emission from air travel, wherever possible. Consider the purchase of offsets where travel and high energy use is essential for business practice, growth and development.
  • Define the role of State Committees in fostering corporate social responsibility.
  • Develop strong ties between Interplast and other charitable bodies.
