Plastic and Reconstructive Surgical Research Award

The Plastic and Reconstructive Surgical Research Award is funded by the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the New Zealand Association of Plastic Surgery (NZAPS) to promote and support plastic surgical research and to encourage Surgical Education and Training Trainees and recent Fellows to undertake postgraduate research studies. It recognises the link between research and clinical advances and demonstrates the commitment of ASPS and NZAPS to academic excellence within their specialty.

5.1 Eligibility Criteria

Applications for the Award are open to SET Trainees or recent Fellows in plastic surgery. Applicants should be enrolled in, or intending to enrol in, a higher degree.

All scholarships, fellowships and grants are conditional upon the applicant being a permanent resident or citizen of Australia or New Zealand, or an international medical graduate accepted into the College as a trainee.

5.2 Selection Criteria

The scholar must demonstrate a commitment to and capacity for research. The scholar will be assessed on his/her curriculum vitae, the research project, and supporting institutional and referees’ reports.

The award will be offered preferably to a researcher as a scholarship with departmental support but may be awarded to a research department as a research grant.

Research department applications will be assessed on the basis of the quality of the research project, in the absence of suitable candidates.

5.3 Value of the Award

This Award of $25,000 is designed to encourage a one year period of supervised research, preferably leading to a research degree

5.4 Duration of the Award

The award is of twelve (12) months duration.
